While the major DSP's have made music easier to discover, they have also placed much of our business into the hands of companies that control the audience, the algorithms, and the economics. These companies are only beholden to their shareholders and stock prices... and while I'm sure there are some good, likeminded people who are employed there, the true nature of these organizations is to grow at all costs (and small labels like Mutant League are nothing but expendable commodities to them). We can reach millions of listeners through traditional streaming platforms and still receive only a small fraction of the value those listeners generate. Just as importantly, those platforms create very little direct connection between the label, its artists, and the people actually supporting the music.
